Momma said there’d be days like this…there’d be days like this my momma said! (is that song stuck in your head now?!)
Today was one of those days.
Recap of the last few days:
Sunday-Celebrated my birthday and welcomed Dodger into the family.
Monday-spent the entire day playing with Dodger and introducing him to our friends and family. Began to wonder if things were going okay with Dodger or not…he has a definite issue with strangers-he hates them!
Tuesday- Experienced an incident with one of my daycare kids that made us decide that our home was not for him. I won’t go into all the details, but suffice it to say that he got more aggressive than we were comfortable with. He is very stranger-leary, and seriously hates people coming into our home. For those of you who know us well, you know that our home is very similar to a revolving door…there are people in and out all day long…which meant that poor Dodger was upset off and on all.day.long.
There’s LOTS more to the story, but the short of it is that we called his previous owners this evening, and her mom (who lives in Des Moines) came and got Dodger tonight. Both parties agreed after discussing the incident that Dodger would do best in a home where there is not a lot of foot-traffic in and out all day like there is at our house.
We are so disappointed, and really wanted this to work out. He was such a great dog aside from this stranger issue. However, with as many people as we have in and out, we were just not comfortable with it.
It was difficult…I tucked Jayda into bed with tears running down her face. She was trying to be so brave about it, but I can tell she’s heart-broken. I feel like a horrible mother tonight…how could I have done that to her?! But, then I realize that there is a teachable moment in every situation. We prayed a lot tonight and snuggled a lot, and I just hope and pray that she somewhat understands.
Ugh…I kinda feel like that book, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” Today was most certainly one of those days.
But, praise God that His mercies are new every morning. Tomorrow will be better!

Tell Jayda I’m crying with her. So sad…. I’m not even a huge fan of dogs, as you know, and I’m heartbroken for you guys!

Oh Emily! I’m so sorry! 😦

That is so hard. I’m sure you guys were wise in your decision. You are most definitely not a horrible mother, on the contrary, you are a mother who knows what is best for her family and willing to face the temporary hurts for the better choice… which can be hard to do. We hate to see our children disappointed don’t we… how it tugs at our hearts! I will be praying for you guys as you “re-adjust” to life without Dodge and I will be praying that the Lord will bring that perfect little addition into your family.
PS. Doug and I were talking and we decided you guys need a puppy! 🙂 Slightly more work but, then it could grow up knowing the dynamic of your home. We were glad to raise Lily since a puppy… she does really well with the boys, traveling and people… all of which are a part of our life.
